Artist Series 008 – Julie Alpert

From Julie– “English Muffins” is a screen-printed translation of a sculptural collage I made earlier this year. The original elements were hand drawn or photocopies of sketchbook drawings that I cut up and assembled. I also used brightly colored duct tape which we highlighted with fluorescent pink ink in the final layer of printing. The title comes from the small row of English Muffins along the bottom edge. They were cut from photocopies of a 2015 colored pencil drawing made in response to the ambient sounds and smells at busy communal breakfasts at an artist residency in Virginia. English Muffins were a staple on the breakfast buffet and I never ate so many of them! Thank you, May, and the rest of the Flash Flood team for creating this beautiful print!

Julie will be donating 20% of each sale to the GoFundMe Wildfire Relief Fund whose nonprofit and charitable arm will issue grants to individuals, organizations, and communities that have been impacted or are dedicated to helping those affected by wildfires.
